Kelly Zimmerman
My name is Kelly and I am a fiber artist based in Charlotte. From a young age I have been interested in creating and always gravitated towards the fiber arts. I learned to crochet when I was 8 and it's been a skill I have continued to develop. Crochet is the main medium I work with but often try out new things. I enjoy embroidering and recently have started to create with felt. I enjoy taking skills that have been viewed as more of a 'craft' and pushing that to be viewed as the art that it is. Most of my art has some influence from the natural world. From flowers to the ocean, there are so many places to draw inspiration from. I love creating art that takes people by surprise and makes their day a bit brighter.
100 Tiny Thing "Unexpected Joy"
I love being able to bring joy in unexpected places to people through my art. Using crochet, I will create an installation that brings art to an unexpected location like a tree. I love using bright colors and floral elements in my installations. I hope to inspire viewers to find the joy in little things and create something beautiful on their own.
